Test Drive Meme
![]() The Time Trapper, the being responsible for bringing people into the Legion's universe, is up to some strange tricks! It's now creating illusions of alternate universes and dumping the Legionnaires into them to try to test them as Legionnaires. Each time this happens, the captives -- er, participants have knowledge of the scenario, their role, and what they're supposed to accomplish planted into their heads, but still remember who they once were. To complicate things, the Legionnaires from the 31st century aren't the only ones pulled into this adventure. Strange people from many worlds are being yanked in and finding themselves thrust right into the heart of these conflicts. These universes technically are just illusions (probably!) and all the participants have an inherent knowledge of this, but it's up to them if they believe it -- and the danger is real. If you die in one of these scenarios you stay dead. This time they're being dumped into a scenario where they're... THE SETTING Cantos Vesa, a city on a desert world that's a seething hive of scum and villainy. An evil empire known The Authority has control of this world. Currently, the Authority's stormtroopers are chasing down individuals that they believe have secret plans to one of their ultimate death weapons, to bring them in for torture and interrogation before they can take the information to the resistance that has set itself against them. In this scenario, some individuals will find themselves being chased by the Authority's stormtroopers, despite their innocence, and despite not actually having any secret plans in their possession. Others will find themselves with innate knowledge that can be used to protect those who are on the run. Yet others may even find themselves turned into stormtroopers. Based on player preference, for the purposes of the meme, characters can either lose powers, retain their canon powers, or find themselves with new powers. It's up to you! Also, yes, you can have a lightsaber. Or a blaster. Go crazy! SCENARIO A You're on the run! Unfortunately, this little pocket universe has made you into one of the people being chased by the Authority. Even more unfortunately, you don't actually have any important information, have no idea where you are, and have no idea how to escape. With any luck, you'll come under the protection of someone willing to help you hide. Or perhaps you can hook up with another person the Authority is chasing for safety in numbers! SCENARIO B "Come with me if you want to live!" It may be a cliche but now's a good time to say it. You've found yourself with innate knowledge of this city and its hiding places, technical skills that can help you hide someone, and even connections among its imaginary residents. You still remember who you were before, but hanging around inside your brain is all the knowledge someone would have if they'd grown up here. And it sure looks like that poor person over there could maybe use a hand. They're being chased by stormtroopers and you may be their only hope! SCENARIO C Whoops, watch that aim! It looks like you're a rank and file stormtrooper in the Authority's army, tasked with spreading out and finding the person they're hunting. How did that happen? You have enough functional knowledge to not be pegged as someone who doesn't belong -- but you still have to be careful to not do anything to piss off your superiors. That's something that might be a difficult task if you happen to find who the Authority is searching for. If you want to prevent them from capturing someone innocent, you might have to get real creative to allow the target of their hunt to get away without getting caught helping them. SCENARIO D Wild card! Have an idea the meme hasn't suggested? Go for it! The sky's the limit. ✦ Current players in game can jump into this and do starters if they like so they can play with new players and each other. This meme will count as part of the game canon for those that opt in, though they'll find their memories somewhat fuzzy afterward. These threads can count toward your AC, however the "new CR" credit cannot be applied since not every character joining in is guaranteed to join the game. This takes place after "Where Angels Fear to Tread." ✦ Potential players can use this as a standard test drive and may use these threads as their samples. However, at least two posts in their threads must fit the requirements for apps, both in length (200 words) and in quality. These two posts can exist in any number of threads whether it's one thread or two. If you do plan on using a thread as a sample, please make sure the writing throughout your threads is a good example of your writing skills and has some solid examples of the character's voice. ✦ Potential players can also opt to keep these threads as game canon when they app in, so that their character remembers the scenario and then suddenly finds themselves in the game universe. However, this is opt in and players can choose to introduce their characters fresh if they'd prefer that and no other characters will remember they were there. Please just note which you'd like in the additional info field on your app. ✦ If you are considering apping to the game, currently 35 of 50 player slots are available. The character limit is 4 characters per player. You can also scope out some of the game's upcoming plots here. ✦ Non-players who like the meme but aren't really considering apping to the game are free to jump in. The more the merrier! The Time Trapper wants a confusing situation and will enjoy the chaos of lots of strange people trying to figure out what's going on. |
Rich Rider / Nova | Marvel Comics (616)
Rich didn't know what to make of all this. It was a grab bag of awesome and terrible.
Fortunately, the weird alternate dimension scenario seemingly removed all the injuries the Silver Surfer had dealt to him. That was a good thing. Definitely a good thing. Because it looked like there was going to be a lot of running involved and you kinda needed to be able to breathe for that kind of thing.
Unfortunately, it looked like all his powers had been taken away. Hooooray.
On the other other hand, he had a really cool blaster and a brain full of useful information.
And on the other other other hand, this was just like Space Wars. Yeah, he could die or whatever, but it was like Space Wars. Usually space wasn't actually like Space Wars and this was.
"Hey!" he called out to the person the stormtroopers were chasing, laying down fire to cover them. "Hey, you! With the lasers being fired at you! This way!"
The person being chased would be greeted to the sight of a massively large man with a robotic right arm, dressed somewhat roguishly, laying down blaster fire to try to help them.

That's when he heard a voice calling to him, leading Firion to look at the large man with the robotic arm. The man blasted at his chasers, giving him enough cover fire for Firion to make his way over to the man saving him. He just hoped he was making the right decision in following this man. He wasn't an untrustworthy individual, but Firion had been betrayed in the past. Still, the 18-year old trusted his gut and he needed to to get of this mess. He grimaced and held his side as he made it over to the older man. "Thanks, sir. Can you tell me what's going on? It seems I've lost my way."
And is being shot at. No big deal. Not exactly a first, to be fair, but the blaster fire was something he certainly hadn't experienced before.

Rich even sounded like a space rogue. Except he actually didn't want to, because that was the same thing as sounding a little like a jerk. He tried again, hoping to sound more gentle.
"I promise I can explain everything but we need to move," he said, guiding the kid by the arm to try to get him to safety. "Especially since you're hurt."
He laid down some cover fire, briefly eyeballing the teen's injuries for the brief half-second of time he had between shots. Not good. Very, very not good. Starting this whole thing off with an injury was bad. He had no idea how long it was going to last or if they'd be able to get out of it soon enough that he could get decent medical attention.
Fortunately, Rich wasn't the worst shot ever. Usually, he was blasting from his hands but an energy beam was an energy beam and they all tended to go in straight lines -- and he'd had to pick up a blaster on more than one occasion. Between the the stormtroopers being crap shots and Rich nudging the kid through a natural bottleneck between two buildings, he managed to put some distance between them and the soldiers.
Then he shot up the struts of large automated mech passing by, that seemed to carrying something for transport, so that it fell into the bottleneck, blocking it off.
"This way."
The little map in his head told him there was a barely used underground undercity in some sections of Cantos Vesa, places that were where the city had once been before more city had been built over top of it. Much of these under levels were filled with stone and sand, but some parts weren't and he led Firion to an abandoned building.
"There's a tunnel opening in the basement. Leads to some hidden under-levels in the city. They won't look for us down there and we can use it to move around the city some without being seen."
Even though he led the way into the building and down the stairs, he still hovered near Firion, trying not to get too far ahead. He was worried about that injury. He tried to make sure he was close enough to catch him if he stumbled or felt weak.
"What's your name, kid? I'm Rich. Rich Rider. I also go by Nova Prime."

If he had his bow, he could at least add to the fire in some fashion. He didn't use arrows, rather he shot arrows of energy, created with his own magic. But for some reason, that was gone and he had no alternative.
Firion followed his lead and ran into the bottleneck between two buildings, grimacing when he heard the crash of the automated mech. But it did its job, blocking the area from the enemy for now. This man knew an awful lot about the city, perhaps that's why he could explain whatever it was that was going on.
"My name is Firion," He answered, his face had a sheen of sweat from fatigue and pain. His hand hovered over his side from the unusual injury, but so far, he was alright. He thought he could make it wherever it was he was being taken too. It didn't seem to be bleeding too much at the moment. Not from what he saw through his light blue armor. "You have two names?" He shook his head, that was the least of his worries. "I-I mean, where exactly am I?"
Those stormtroopers didn't look like manikins, but they did look the same because of their armor. And they used weapons he hadn't seen before. He felt it alright to assume he was still no longer part of the Conflict of the Gods. Which begged the question; whose Conflict was this? And why was he now a part of it?

"This whole thing is...hard to explain. There's this really screwed-up, reality-altering being that made this place. Think of it as an actually tangible illusion, a fake world that's real enough to hurt you -- even kill you."
Rich paused as he shut the door over their heads.
"That being? He's pretty much an asshole. Like a giant, huge, huge asshole. He's called the Time Trapper."
Once the door was safely shut, he followed Firion down the stairs to the dusty tunnel floor, and now he even wrapped an arm around his shoulders to help support him. He wanted to get them a little farther along, into one of the many little hidey holes down here, and then he'd see what he could do for his injury.
no subject
He sighed, although grateful for the added support he felt around his shoulders.
"I see. Beings with power seem to like to draws others in, don't they?" Not that he blamed Cosmos, but he did have a home he wanted to return to. "What's his reason?"
They always had a reason, he felt. Whether they be Gods or corrupt rulers. Evil mages or traitorous soldiers. They always had a reason for it, right?
no subject
That explained it well enough, right?
"Sometimes he creates little illusion worlds like this to test people. He does it to challenge some of us, ones he's already stolen away -- like me -- to become stronger so we can beat Chronoblivion. Others, like you, we think he does it to test you out to see if he wants to steal you and make you help his universe, too. He'll throw us all in here together and take away our powers or magic or put knowledge in our heads, or do any number of things to challenge us."
He always made it harder than it had to be.
"Right now, he's got those soldiers gunning for you and he put knowledge in my head of the city. So that I know hiding places and secret passages and people in the illusion that can help me keep you safe, as if I was raised here. I think he wants to test us to see if we can work together."
They found a nice little hidden alcove, the ruins of a house in the undercity, and Rich helped Firion sit down on a block of stone, searching through his belt to find the medkit he had there. At least he'd be given good supplies by this place.
"If you take off your armor, I've got some stuff to fix up that wound."
no subject
"Well, I suppose that explains my weapons' disappearance," Firion sighed as he was helped to a block of stone, sitting down and nodding to the instruction. He unclipped the light blue cloak around his shoulders and pulled off the surprisingly flexible armor around his chest, leaving him with a sleeveless light blue colored shirt. He unclipped that as well, leaving it open for Rich to have access to the wound just below his ribs. "Thank you, sir. For the help and explanation."
He just wished he could be of more assistance. All he had were his fists but that wouldn't be of much use with their ranged weapons.
so sorry for the long wait, I lost the notif
The sting wouldn't last long, however. The pain reliever in it worked quickly. As soon as Rich finished, the wound was sealed up, as if the dried spray was like a second skin. It was strong enough that bandages weren't even needed.
"That should hold you over for now," Rich said, packing the spray away. "We need to keep moving. We should see about sneaking to the surface to find you a weapon."
There were a few places that led up to the surface, where they could potentially try stealing a weapon and sneaking back down again.
no prob!
Even as Rich spoke, Firion twisted a little to test it and it held up quite nicely. Firion was very impressed, but quickly moved on to the matter hand, working on clipping his shirt back up and pulling on his armor and cloak. "I'm most familiar with swords, but I've learned to use several others if need be. Except for what those soldiers were using."
He hoped that wouldn't be a detriment to what they needed to do now. Escaping and working together was something he was familiar with, having been in many scrapes with his comrades from the Manikins and the Warriors of Chaos.
Re: no prob!
Even despite all his time around advanced technology, both with the Legion and back home, he was still just a normal guy from Long Island. Sometimes it blew his mind how advanced some technology was. They'd even been able regrow him a leg during the war once.
"I don't think a sword's going to do much for you here. We need to get you a blaster. I can show you how to use one. You ever use any ranged weapons, like a bow and arrows or something?"
The aiming aspect might be familiar to him if he had, it was just the point and click aspect and "everything goes straight and you don't need to account for wind shear" would be new.
