Test Drive Meme

THE "I'M WITH THE LEGION, I'M HERE TO RESCUE YOU!" MEME

The Time Trapper, the being responsible for bringing people into the Legion's universe, is up to some strange tricks! It's now creating illusions of alternate universes and dumping the Legionnaires into them to try to test them as Legionnaires. Each time this happens, the captives -- er, participants have knowledge of the scenario, their role, and what they're supposed to accomplish planted into their heads, but still remember who they once were.

To complicate things, the Legionnaires from the 31st century aren't the only ones pulled into this adventure. Strange people from many worlds are being yanked in and finding themselves thrust right into the heart of these conflicts.

These universes technically are just illusions (probably!) and all the participants have an inherent knowledge of this, but it's up to them if they believe it -- and the danger is real. If you die in one of these scenarios you stay dead. This time they're being dumped into a scenario where they're...

ON THE RUN FROM THE EMPIRE!

THE SETTING
Cantos Vesa, a city on a desert world that's a seething hive of scum and villainy. An evil empire known The Authority has control of this world. Currently, the Authority's stormtroopers are chasing down individuals that they believe have secret plans to one of their ultimate death weapons, to bring them in for torture and interrogation before they can take the information to the resistance that has set itself against them.

In this scenario, some individuals will find themselves being chased by the Authority's stormtroopers, despite their innocence, and despite not actually having any secret plans in their possession. Others will find themselves with innate knowledge that can be used to protect those who are on the run. Yet others may even find themselves turned into stormtroopers.

Based on player preference, for the purposes of the meme, characters can either lose powers, retain their canon powers, or find themselves with new powers. It's up to you!

Also, yes, you can have a lightsaber. Or a blaster. Go crazy!

SCENARIO A
You're on the run! Unfortunately, this little pocket universe has made you into one of the people being chased by the Authority. Even more unfortunately, you don't actually have any important information, have no idea where you are, and have no idea how to escape. With any luck, you'll come under the protection of someone willing to help you hide. Or perhaps you can hook up with another person the Authority is chasing for safety in numbers!

SCENARIO B
"Come with me if you want to live!" It may be a cliche but now's a good time to say it. You've found yourself with innate knowledge of this city and its hiding places, technical skills that can help you hide someone, and even connections among its imaginary residents. You still remember who you were before, but hanging around inside your brain is all the knowledge someone would have if they'd grown up here.

And it sure looks like that poor person over there could maybe use a hand. They're being chased by stormtroopers and you may be their only hope!

SCENARIO C
Whoops, watch that aim! It looks like you're a rank and file stormtrooper in the Authority's army, tasked with spreading out and finding the person they're hunting. How did that happen? You have enough functional knowledge to not be pegged as someone who doesn't belong -- but you still have to be careful to not do anything to piss off your superiors.

That's something that might be a difficult task if you happen to find who the Authority is searching for. If you want to prevent them from capturing someone innocent, you might have to get real creative to allow the target of their hunt to get away without getting caught helping them.

SCENARIO D
Wild card! Have an idea the meme hasn't suggested? Go for it! The sky's the limit.

OOC INFO

Current players in game can jump into this and do starters if they like so they can play with new players and each other. This meme will count as part of the game canon for those that opt in, though they'll find their memories somewhat fuzzy afterward. These threads can count toward your AC, however the "new CR" credit cannot be applied since not every character joining in is guaranteed to join the game. This takes place after "Where Angels Fear to Tread."

Potential players can use this as a standard test drive and may use these threads as their samples. However, at least two posts in their threads must fit the requirements for apps, both in length (200 words) and in quality. These two posts can exist in any number of threads whether it's one thread or two. If you do plan on using a thread as a sample, please make sure the writing throughout your threads is a good example of your writing skills and has some solid examples of the character's voice.

Potential players can also opt to keep these threads as game canon when they app in, so that their character remembers the scenario and then suddenly finds themselves in the game universe. However, this is opt in and players can choose to introduce their characters fresh if they'd prefer that and no other characters will remember they were there. Please just note which you'd like in the additional info field on your app.

If you are considering apping to the game, currently 35 of 50 player slots are available. The character limit is 4 characters per player. You can also scope out some of the game's upcoming plots here.

Non-players who like the meme but aren't really considering apping to the game are free to jump in. The more the merrier! The Time Trapper wants a confusing situation and will enjoy the chaos of lots of strange people trying to figure out what's going on.

It was weird. Hearing Pitch's voice come out of this person, having it ring kind and gentle with no hint of a motive. It was remarkably close to the time in Antarctica. But the difference was also this man seemingly had no idea who Jack was.

Kozmotis Pitchiner... Why did that sound familiar? Had the others mentioned the name before? It was certainly something he should ask about next he saw them. For now, he finally relaxed his hold on the staff and held up instead. He shook his head.

"No, I'm fine. Just came here to hide," Jack finally replied. "My name's Jack Frost."

Thousands of years would pass before Jack met the shade that the man in front of him would become. Kozmotis has not the slightest idea what awaits him, will not until it's too late to stop it.

"Well-met, Jack Frost."

The sound of gunfire is still echoing through the streets. The soldier wants to stop this senseless attack--he doesn't know what prompted it, but firing on unarmed civilians is unacceptable.

"Have you any idea who these soldiers are? They've not been very forthcoming with me." There's a wry twist to his words, a hint of the sarcastic humor that Pitch is so fond of, but not with that bitter edge.

Jack shook his head, turning around to take a peak out the window again. "No, I just sort of... Landed here. And then, they started shooting and I've been running ever since. It doesn't sound like they're after me in particular but anyone showing some sort of resistance."

Kind of reminded him of one of Jamie's video games. Rainbow Fantasy or something? He'd have to ask whenever he saw the kid again. Jack ducked back and approached the General. "War isn't my specialty, so I'm not sure what to do. Any ideas?"

Like it or not, Jack was going to have to trust this guy for now.

"I would be inclined to agree. They don't seem to be very particular with their targets." Not unfamiliar--Kozmotis has spent his entire military career fighting Dream Pirates and Fearlings, who have no organization to speak of. They don't discriminate between soldiers and civilians, targeting all equally. It was one of the reasons they were so dangerous.

"A few. Finding their commanding officer, for one. Presuming this is an organized force." They have armors, weapons, and he'd heard them discussing tactics and orders. They weren't mindless.

Kozmotis straightens, arm extending to his side--with a curl of his fingers, a golden scythe appears, and he holds it with the ease of long practice.

"I can protect you, or provide a distraction. They'll likely follow me if I'm persuasive enough about it."

(By which he means 'if I attack them.' All in a normal day.)

"Seemed pretty organized to me," Jack muttered as he glanced back towards the window. When he glanced back, the scythe was there and Jack flinched before realizing it was golden and not black. Everything about this guy was the opposite of Pitch. If this really was the same person, then what happened?

"I can protect myself. I think it's better we try to just get out of here rather than trying to distract them," Jack replied, resting his staff on his shoulder. "You can't fly, so it's probably better if I help you get out of here faster."

He looked around the warehouse, what could they use? Of course, it also depended on his the General was willing to go on a sled ride.

Kozmotis scoffs. He doesn't hold their apparent 'shoot first, ask questions never' policy in very high regard. Not one independent thought in the bunch. Soldiers were meant to follow orders, but also needed to improvise.

But it's true--he can't fly, not under his own power. What magic he does have is specialized in his constructs--weapons, shields--and conjuring light. Devastating to creatures of darkness like Fearlings, merely incapacitating to humanoid eyes.

Though with how nervous Jack is around him, he is finding himself quite surprised the boy would offer assistance. He'd expected to set off another light spell and go his own way, which is why he'd called up his scythe in the first place.

(He sounded so certain. Kozmotis hadn't demonstrated that he could fly, but equally hadn't admitted that he couldn't...)

"I take it you have something in mind."

Well, if what Pitch said was true and this is the same guy, then Jack couldn't just outright abandon him! Also, Jack just didn't have a mean bone in his body. He played tricks but his goal was always for laughs and fun. Not to be cruel.

And if there was one thing he remembered about Pitch, it was that the boogeyman couldn't fly.

Jack grinned at Kozmotis and nodded. "I do. How would like to go for a little ride?"

(Right, that's Pitch's job.)

That grin was a promise of trouble to come. But there wasn't much else to do--either they make their way out of here or wait for the soldiers to get the idea that someone might be hiding in here, and storm the place.

Kozmotis doesn't like the odds of being trapped in a building, no matter how poor a shot their attackers are, or how good he and this sprite were in a heated battle.

So, that leaves two options. Either they split up and go it alone, or he agrees to a plan that might very well end with him crashing headlong into a wall.

Well, at least he's wearing armor. He answers with a smile of his own--surely it can't be worse than some of the solar storms they've weathered.

"Sounds fun."

Jack made his way over to the pile of scrap metal, pulling out one that was dome shaped and appeared to be big enough for the general, but Kozmotis would have to give the okay. With a sweep of his staff, he made a solid road of ice shoot straight toward the door, stopping just before it.

He laid the dome on the ice. "Alright then, hop on. I promise, I won't let you get hurt, it'll be fun."

Jack didn't mind fighting, but given how many of those troopers there were. He really didn't want to get tangled up in them and who knew how long Pitch, er, Kozmotis would last. With a hop, Jack was airborne, his clothes billowing slightly from the Wind keeping him aloft. He waited for the general to get on.

Well. This is going to be interesting.

Kozmotis's fingers loosen from around his scythe, and it vanishes in a fine spray of golden light. It's only going to get in the way, it seems--and then he gamely settles down on the metal disc, feeling ever so slightly ridiculous.

"I truly do appreciate that. My nose is already unfortunate enough."

This...is going to be entertaining.

With a hearty chuckle, he was off!

The Wind blast the doors open while pushing Kozmotis forward and as soon as the General was out of the building, he was turning on a corner of ice that Jack recently made, the sprite being only slightly up ahead creating the icy road for the ride. He laughing still, obviously having fun and looking back to make sure Kozmotis was still there.

As promised, the disc didn't veer off the path, but he didn't promise it would be smooth. He saluted the troopers as they passed by, grinning a white-toothed grin all the while as the troopers looked on in what had to be confusion.

"How ya holdin' up, General?"

Oh yes, he's still there--though he's fairly sure he left his stomach in the warehouse--cape billowing out dramatically behind him and promising to get in his face at some point, surely.

Though judging by the wide grin on his face, he genuinely is having fun. A couple of troopers get over their surprise and start shooting at the two of them, but what shots don't go completely wild are blocked by quickly conjured light shields.

"Quite well, thank you!" He laughs, holding on as they go around another wild curve so he doesn't get tossed off.

There's a whole group of them up ahead and Jack's staff was on the ground immediately, skittering lightly as he added his feet as well. He slid easily before launching into the air once more, creating a hill to go right over the troopers. He created a gap and knowing exactly where the downward fall would begin, continued the icy road once more.

He was very quick and very agile, freerunning off the sides of the buildings and any overhangs as they made there way through and around the city and the troopers. "Hey, General? Exactly how far do we need to go to get away from these guys anyway?"
