The "Shiver Me Timbers" Test Drive Meme

THE "SHIVER ME TIMBERS" TEST DRIVE MEME

The Being responsible for bringing people into the Legion's universe is up to some strange tricks! It's now creating illusions of alternate universe and dumping the Legionnaires into them, as if testing them for its own reasons. Each time this happens, the captives -- er, participants have knowledge of the scenario, their role, and what they're supposed to accomplish planted into their heads, but still remember who they once were.

These universes technically are just illusions and all the participants have an inherent knowledge of this, but it's up to them if they believe it -- and the danger is real. If you die in one of these scenarios you stay dead.

This time they're being dumped into a scenario where they're...

STEAMPUNK PIRATES

THE SETTING: Ahoy, maties! Welcome to a world with floating islands covered in resplendent natural beauty or colonized with towns and cities, where steamships are the main form of travel. This world in the clouds is where most people are able to live safely after a natural disaster sent chunks of floating Earth up into the air. Certain death lies down below, thanks to nasty creatures that crawled out of the sea, that swarm the rocky, uneven wastelands that were left behind.

The main thing destroying the peace of this world are air pirates, who travel from place to place, attacking island colonies and passenger ships. Everyone pulled into this temporary mayfly universe will find themselves as part of a privateer ship -- pirates commissioned to fight other pirates to protect the skies -- in the midst of a dangerous battle.

To complicate things, the Legionnaires from the 31st century aren't the only ones pulled into this adventure. Strange people from many worlds are being yanked in and finding themselves thrust right into the heat of battle.

Will you follow the siren call of swashbuckling adventure in the skies? Will you try to stop everyone from fighting and try to make peace? Or attack the privateers and join the nefarious pirate fleet? The choice in your hands and as you make it, the Being is watching. Judging. Deciding who it deems worthy to place in what universe it sees fit.

WEAPONS AND POWERS: It's up to you whether your character still has their superpowers, if they have any, and nonpowered characters can potentially find themselves with new powers if you'd like them to. As far as weapons go, characters will find themselves with a small array of weapons, everything from projectile weapons, guns that shoot electricity (which can stun or kill), smoke bombs, cutlasses, sabers, and more.

SCENARIO A: Congratulations, you scaliwag! You're a privateer and you're part of the boarding party! You're already hooked onto a zipline that will toss you head first into battle on the pirates' ship. Maybe if you band together with the other confused people tossed head first into battle you can actually survive it. Good luck!

SCENARIO B: You find yourself already on the main deck of the pirates' ship and it looks like the pirates have some innocent captives cowering in a corner. Do you have what it takes to protect them? Are they even real people or is all this truly an illusion? Fortunately, if you do protect them (just in case that little voice in your head was lying about this all being an illusion) you can probably find some like-minded selfless types to fight side by side with.

SCENARIO C: You're on the main deck of the privateer ship and have to maintain and protect those cannons or you and your privateer buddies are toast! Those gifted with skills in science and mechanics should find it easy to figure out how they work and will find themselves with the right equipment to keep them running -- and weapons to defend them in case they need to.

SCENARIO D: What's this? You've been dumped on the side of the pirates and that little voice in your head told you to fight the privateers to get free of this and go home? It's up to you whether or not you take the pirates' side and agree to fight the privateers as a way out of this strange little universe.

Maybe you'll try to fight the other side to the death. Maybe you'll try to simply stun them, or perhaps you'll change sides because some of them look just as confused as you are. In any case, you have a difficult decision to make and you have to do it fast.

SCENARIO E: Wild card! Choose your own scenario. Maybe you find yourself in the group of captives and decide to pick up a weapon. Maybe you try to take the lead and organize the others. The choice is yours!

OOC INFO

Current players in game can jump into this and do starters if they like so they can play with new players and each other. This meme will count as part of the game canon for those that opt in, though they'll find their memories somewhat fuzzy afterward. These threads can count toward your AC, however the "new CR" credit cannot be applied since not every character joining in is guaranteed to join the game. This takes place before the Earth field trip.

Potential players can use this as a standard test drive and may use these threads as their samples. However, at least two posts in their threads must fit the requirements for apps, both in length (200 words) and in quality. These two posts can exist in any number of threads whether it's one thread or two. If you do plan on using a thread as a sample, please make sure the writing throughout your threads is a good example of your writing skills and has some solid examples of the character's voice.

Potential players can also opt to keep these threads as game canon when they app in, so that their character remembers the scenario and then suddenly finds themselves in the game universe. However, this is opt in and players can choose to introduce their characters fresh if they'd prefer that and no other characters will remember they were there. Please just note which you'd like in the additional info field on your app.

If you are considering apping to the game, currently 31 of 40 player slots are available and we may be increasing this number to 50 soon. Currently the character limit is 3 characters per player.

Non-players who like the meme but aren't really considering apping to the game are free to jump in. The more the merrier! The Being behind this wants a confusing situation and will enjoy the chaos of lots of strange people trying to figure out what's going on.

Rich Rider / Nova | Marvel Comics

[personal profile] iamresponding 2016-03-01 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)
SCENARIO A

"Blue Blaazeeees!" The last word was dragged into a long, confused yell as Rich was yanked onto the pirate ship on his zipline. He was able to tuck and roll when he hit the other side, thank God for superhero reflexes. His flight ring was gone, after all, so flying and making a smooth landing was out of the question.

He quickly unhooked the zipline, just in time to duck a blow from a pirate meant to chop his head off and then punched the pirate in the stomach with his prosthetic--

-- which now looked super weird. It wasn't the sleek robotic arm the Legion gave him. It had been replaced by a complicated-looking contraption with lots of moving parts, and he could hear loud gears whirring on the inside.

As he caught sight of his clothes and pulled out a saber from its sheathe at his waste his brows furrowed in extreme confusion.

"The hell is going on?" he yelled out. Yeah, that weird voice had told him what was happening but that didn't mean it made sense to be suddenly yanked into this. "And why are there gears on my clothes?"

That was a lot of gears. On clothes. Why the hell would clothes need gears? They weren't doing anything.

SCENARIO B

Even though the little voice had told them about this world -- that it wasn't real but the danger was -- Rich didn't want to risk that it was lying. He knew he wouldn't be able to stand having it on his conscience if there were people that needed help and he let them die because he'd believed a lie.

So here he was, powerless, armed with a cutlass he didn't even really know how to use all that well, trying to defend them.

There was a person nearby, someone that looked like they were just as confused as he was -- which meant maybe they'd been dragged into this, too -- and Rich turned to them.

"Listen, I know that weird voice said all this wasn't real but if we can get hurt, it's real enough. Whatever-it-was might have been lying, and if it was, these people need help. If we don't protect them, they don't stand a freakin' chance."

Jason Lee Scott | Power Rangers

[personal profile] kingtyrantranger 2016-03-02 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
SCENARIO D:
Dumped on a random sky pirate crew? Well, it didn't require as much adjustment as life working with a nervous robot and a giant talking head had. Now, he wasn't sure about these thigh-high boots. They might be just the thing for a pirate king, but the heels were killing him.

No time to worry about that now, though. Yes, he'd been dumped onto a crew... But the wrong one. It didn't take too long to see that, just that the ship they were against was flying the Legion flag. He shook his head as the fighting ship approached and glanced around. Now there was someone who looked a little confused.

"Hey." He raised his hand and approached with his cutlass tucked into the red sash at his waist. Jason pitched his voice lower so that the men around, the actually grizzled ones who were clamping daggers between their teeth and crying out death threats lustily, couldn't hear. "You look a little lost. Hearing a strange voice, right? Look, I know you don't know me, but trust me. The guys on that other boat are friends. Not to these guys, but probably to you. Just get below or something, find some shelter, and I'll try to handle things up here. All right?"

SCENARIO E:
And the day had been going so well. Who doesn't mind a little unexpected time travel now and then? Especially when you get an awesome cutlass and bandanna out of the deal. Okay, the red silk shirt would be improved if he could find a way to keep it closed.

Admittedly, the whole 'skyship' thing had taken a bit of getting used to.

The battle was over. The pirate ship captured and the crew in chains. In raiding the enemy ship for clues, the Legionnaires and their unexpected guests had discovered, of all things, a treasure map. And if something was that obvious, it was probably the key to getting home somehow. They'd gone sailing and, with cat-like tread, managed to locate the chest, only to be confronted with some kind of paradoxical logic puzzle locking the entrance to the cave. Jason and his merry band of misfits could've handled that, if it hadn't been for the shuriken that seemed to sprout from the wall, an inch from his nose.

And now... Well, temporary as it may be, the crew's newly found piratical nature seemed to activate the instinctive hatred of the cave ninjas. Jason hissed as he swept aside his foe's weapon, hammering the hooded figure over the head with the pommel of his sword. "Hurry up with that lock, guys!" He spared a worried glance over his shoulder. "I think I'm just making them angry over here."

As good as he was, he was just one pirate against a whole clan of ninjas. Unless someone gives him a hand, or gets to that treasure, pretty darn quick, he's going to need a lot more than a bottle of rum from Ernie's Grog Bar the end of the day.

Rich had Jason's back.

"Oh, come on!"

Ninjas? Freaking ninjas? This whole thing had just been one giant mess. A very confusing mess. Rich had done his fair share of skipping into other dimensions but this was...odd. It was just all over the damn place, like the little world they were in couldn't entirely decide what genre it was.

"This is getting ridiculous," said Rich, deflecting a katana blow with his cutlass and stunning the ninja responsible for the attack with his weird little electric ray gun. He was holding his cutlass with the weird, complicated mechanical arm his prosthetic had changed into, because it was way easier to aim the gun with his flesh and blood hand. "If it wasn't for the weird head-voice I'd've thought this was one of those holodeck-gone-wrong scenarios. Hell, it still might be, for all we know. Watch, we'll get the treasure and Professor Moriarty, Jack the Ripper, and Evil Lincoln will show up and try to steal it."

That was always a thing, right? When they got back to Legion World, he was probably even going to start a pool on the Simroom having a glitch and causing sentient evil programs or something.

Gwendolyne "Gwen" Stacy | Marvel Comics (Earth-65)

[personal profile] deafleppard 2016-03-04 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
[A]

"So about the part where I come back to you guys..." Nope, too late, Gwen is already riding down the zipline and literally heading straight towards one of the pirate ships.

Oh god, why.

She didn't so much as tumble or roll once she made it aboard. Thanks, wall-crawling powers. Instead, she just sort of... arrived, feet planting themselves on the ship deck. And with as much white as her costume had, it meant that Gwen suddenly had a bunch of pirate eyes on her. Great, just great. Well, time to bust out some of that classic Spider-Woman wit!

“Okay, I know what you guys are thinking.” Not really, telepathy wasn't really her thing, much as she would've liked having that for high school.

“Where did a hero like her get such a cool outfit? Well, the reality is-” And that was a pirate swinging at her with some sort of blade. Like, right in the middle of her big explanation. Could you get any more rude? Then you had another one trying to shoot her. Which… was much more familiar that some creep taking a swing at her with whatever kind of sword pirates used.

“Wow, okay. Was that entirely necessary just now? Like, come on.”

[C]

Protect the cannons and keep them up and running. That first one she could do, no problem. The other, well...maybe not so much. Still, Gwen did her part and and knocked out a few of the pirates who got a bit too close to the canons.

Easy, at least, she thought it was, until she turned around to get closer look, and listening ear, at the canon.

“Hey, it's making a weird a noise. Should it be making a weird noise?”

Naval battles? Sure, he's handled those before. Naval battles in the sky? Whatever, weirder things have happened since being dragged into the Legion's mess. But being asked to work a cannon? Yeah, that's a bit trickier.

"I'm not sure. I've never had to man them before." Saralegui seemed almost irritated to admit it, giving the cannon a petulant look. And oddly enough, he seemed more concerned with this little frustration than the battle raging on around them.

"But on the off chance that there is something wrong with it," he added, and took her upper arm to gently pull her away from the cannon, "It would probably be better not to examine the very dangerous gunpowder-filled piece of artillery so closely."

"Rude. Seriously, mid-wisecrack? C'mon, guys, you couldn't at least give her 'til the end of the sentence?" Rich said, ducking a saber swing and knocking the pirate responsible out with the pommel of his own saber of mysterious origin.

Unlike Gwen, he'd been shoved into a pirate costume, even if it had some touches of his usual costume. Lots of blue when blue wasn't exactly a common pirate color.

He'd been thrown head first into this little jaunt, too, but some faces he recognized. Fellow Legionnaires. This girl, on the other hand...

"Okay, so what is it? Arachni-girl? Spider-woman? Unless you don't have a superhero name yet." It was a possibility. Even the costume might've been something created by the Whatever-It-Was that had tossed everyone into this mess. "If that's the case, how 'bout Spider Lass?"

The Legion seemed to love those "lad/lass" names, and if she'd been tossed into this, whatever it was, it was possible she might follow them home like the multiversal equivalent of a stray puppy.

"Oh, uh, right." Yes, let's step away from the currently active piece of very real (to her) artillery that was periodically firing at those pirates. Also? It was loud, like, really loud. Every time it fired, which was often.

Well, at least it was still firing, so that was a good sign, yeah?

But seriously how had she gotten stuck with this sort of gig. Hand her a drum stick and she could do some real magic with that. Musical magic. But magic, still. Tell her to stand watch over a cannon and...

Yeah.

"So... now wait? I mean, it's still making that noise. Just less loud than before."

"Ugh, no Spider Lass, and don't even think about using Spider Girl." Still not a telepath, but she wanted to get that last portion out of the way early on. "Just go with Spider Woman, okay?" Maybe she showing a little extra in. Like, the Amazing Spider Woman. You know, if she wasn't busy dodging pirate swords.

And punching pirates square in the jaw.

"You know, this is a lot less cool than it originally sounded."

"Wait, if you're feeling passive," he said, smooth and dry. "Or perhaps find someone who does know what they're doing. But I don't think this is the sort of thing where good intentions will help, so I'd leave it alone otherwise."

Worst case scenario, it stopped firing. Well, second-worst case. "Worst" would probably involve the thing exploding. Either way, it was probably a nightmare for the sailors, but negligible as far as Saralegui was concerned. He'd won larger battles with fewer resources.

"In the meantime, perhaps help deal with them?" Retreating a few steps behind another (fully functional) cannon, Saralegui gestured with his head at a trio of pirates that were just dropping in off a zipline they'd attached at some point.

"Any relation to a certain friendly neighborhood wallcrawler of some renown?" he asked.

Funny that, a pirate asking questions about superheroes.

"Because Spider-Man and I go way back." Way, way back. "He was one of my first big team-ups."

So clearly not a pirate, which was at least partly obvious by the way he was mostly powering through all this with brute strength. He'd done a little bit of weapons training with Gamora and Drax, but not enough to be any good at this. A real pirate would actually know how to wield a cutlass.

"These aren't my usual duds, by the way. Normally, I go around with a bucket on my head." A pause. "Which is not gonna make a lick of sense unless you're from the same or a similar universe."

Everyone called him bucket-head back home, but if she didn't have a Nova in her universe, well...she'd probably just think he was some kind of weirdo who went around with a bucket on his head.

The pirate that took a swing at her with his sword looked like a kid, not much younger than Gwen, but still younger than most of the other pirates that have surrounded her. And he's a quick little bugger, perfectly happy to take advantage of her continued attempts to quip as he advanced and attempts another attack.

"Yes." Yes, it was entirely necessary, taking the time to quip or rant will always leave you vulnerable to attacks, he'd learned that the hard way the first time he'd gotten into a real fight. How was he not supposed to take advantage of an opening?

This time using the rapier the way it was meant to be used Thad thrust the sword at her, trying to drive her further back as opposed to aiming to actually hit.

While he remembers what occurred with the Legion, the planted orders and dramatic shift in universe have messed with his sense of reality. It feels too much like the old simulations he'd run with Craydl, and the orders are far too easy for his mind to twist into instructions from the old AI. As far as he was aware this was all just another run of "training", and the people here were just virtual opponents, which makes him as dangerous as any of the other pirates on this ship.

Fortunately, while he's quick, his stance and his way of holding the rapier are all clumsy, as if he's never actually used a sword before. It wouldn't be too hard to take advantage of that.

Scenario B - And I haven't updated his icons yet. That's in the works

[personal profile] sir_vancelot 2016-03-07 03:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'm pretty sure the line here is something about preaching and choirs, buckethead."

It was understandable that Rich hadn't recognized Vance straight off. After all, they were both dressed in...well, Vance was pretty sure it was called 'steampunk chic' or something like that. Angelica probably would have known better. Or Janet. They both knew more about fashion than he did.

Still, it had taken a moment for him to get his bearings. Now that he had them, he made his way over to Rich's side, meaning to put up a shield between them and the attackers.

Something seemed to flicker around them for a moment before it dropped, leaving Vance with a pounding head even as he pulled his sword. "Well. That's not good."

"In all the big, wide universe, Whatever-it-was that brought us here decided to bring you? Sometimes, I almost think there actually is a God."

Sometimes things actually worked out well. For once. If Rich could have summoned up anyone in all the universe to help out, Vance was in the top five.

"It's good to see you, Super Tights."

Especially considering that Rich had died. He hadn't expected to see any of his friends and family ever again as he'd been dying.

Rich parried a blow and knocked a pirate out with his elbow, then turned and caught the arm of another pirate as he directed a cutlass blow towards his head, the strange clockwork monstrosity that was his arm clicking away.

"I wish I could explain what's going on but I only know about half of it."

"I work with one. Not as impressive as you might think."

Thor was impressive. Vance was talking out of his ass.

He raised his own cutlass in a salute before he went to work on helping to beat away the pirates. "Story of our lives, the whole 'not knowing what's going on but jumping in anyway' thing, at least." The arm was curious, but not enough for Vance to really take a look at it while they were in the middle of a fight. "Just so you know, though, it seems that whatever's decided to bring me here has left me down on the TK."

Which was what he'd meant by 'not good'. "For the record, it's good to see you too. ...Really good."

"I'm down the Nova Force, too," he said.

Then he grinned.

"And I bet it is. Considering I was dead. In case you're wondering what exactly is going on with that, I'm pretty sure one of the X-Men left the door to the afterlife open."

He didn't really have much more information than that and even if he did, he didn't have much time to give it.

"Anyway, here's the skinny -- I woke up, alive, in another dimension with superheroes. In the 31st century. A couple other people woke up there too and people have been trickling in since then. All of us either had our powers changed or got powers, for those that had none. That world's version of the Avengers, the Legion of Superheroes, put us up and we're helping them out so they have time to work on getting us home. Then, all of a sudden, we were here. With people who weren't Legionnaires like us -- like you. And we don't know who's behind it or --"

Whoops, he had to duck to avoid getting his head taken off.

"--or what that little voice in our heads was about, either. It's almost like something's...testing us."

Vance went quiet for a few moments, concentrating on the fighting. And probably trying to digest what Rich had just been telling him. Because, really, it was a LOT to take in.

Especially since, yeah. Rich was dead.

But, fighting next to somebody who should have been dead wasn't that unusual in their world. Vance did it on a regular basis, after all. The X-Men weren't the only ones good at coming back from beyond the grave.

Still, he manages a grin. A little forced, maybe, but there. "Remind me to send the X-Men some flowers when I get home."

Rich was one of his oldest friends, after all. Having him back was a good thing, even if only for a short time.

The rest of it sinks in and he nods. "It does feel like a test, doesn't it? Just what we need."

"I wish we could figure out who the hell's doing the testing, because it's probably the same thing that pulled some of us into the Legion's universe."

Rich punched one of the pirates in the face with his prosthetic and then took advantage of his brief moment of shock to grab him and toss him overboard before he could get to the people cowering behind them.

"But that would be too easy. Actually finding the little man behind the curtain."

Vance ducked as one of the pirates swung for him. He grabbed the man's arm, pulling until he was over his back before flipping him over the side of the ship. "Good thing Thrash had us do a lot of unpowered melee, too," he said. And it almost didn't hurt to mention the man.

He snorted, grinning over at Rich. "So, what. You think this is the guy's version of 'Lions and tigers and bears'?"

Okay this? This she could handle, no problem. Leave the cannon upkeep to someone else who could reliably touch it without having it literally blow up in their faces. Gwen would just be keeping herself busy by beating up pirates. Because why not, right? They were there, and they were making all sorts of nasty faces at them. Far as she knew, that was enough reason for her to take them all on. The fact that it was three of them didn't cause Gwen to worry at all.

“Sure, beating up pirates sounds like a great story to take back home with me.”

And off she goes, without so much as… a plan, just charging towards the enemy pirates. But really, the trio don't put up much of a fight, with Gwen outclassing them all and making quick work of them. Hardly even breaks a sweat, but that could've also been due to the costume she was still wearing. Either way, the pirates are all dealt with and a triumphant Spider Woman is returning back.

“Alright, took care of those guys easily enough! How's the cannon?” She asked, looking at the still functioning artillery.

“Oh good, they're all still doing cannon things.”

Oh boy, he just had to go ahead and say that particular set of words. For her, it was impossible not to think about Peter whenever someone mentioned "Spider-Man." Peter had always remained in her thoughts, with Gwen thinking about him every day. As well as thinking about that day, where he died.

All because he wanted to be special, like her.

The witty one-liners had stopped, Gwen herself distracted by thoughts about Peter. Both the one she was responsible for getting killed, and the one that had gone on to become Spider-Man.

"Yeah. We, uh, know each other. Different universes, though. Met back when these crazy, universe-hopping alien vampires were all hunting us down." Oh the fun she'd had during those days.

"Long story, trust me."

And by that we mean that there was hardly any fun to be had.

"So what's the story behind the bucket? Other helmets too last year for you?"

"But how about you tell me how you really feel?"

Tough crowd, even though just the one guy didn't really count as much of a 'crowd' to begin with.

She's pushed back after his thrust, with Gwen able to read his intentions. It's by watching him that she can tell just how serious he's being about all this. Definitely several steps above the rest of the pirates when it came in regards. And ugh, he was fast, too. Why did she had get the one that faster than the others.

Well, he's fast, but so is she. The problem is, he's armed and she's... well, not.

"To be honest, I think it's more the 'oh my.'"

Probably meant to test how they adapted to sudden weirdness and new threats.

"There's something big going on, Vance. Real big. If it's the same thing as what brought me and the others to the Legion's universe, then whatever's behind it brought me back from being stone dead. I'd lost an arm and probably would've bled to death even if I hadn't turned into a dimensional door and dissipated into energy."

There hadn't even been a body that could've been pumped full of life or rejuvenated or something. He'd scattered and whatever it was had the power to pull him back together again and make him live.

"It's toying with us but I think it's doing it for a reason."

Saralegui was not a fighter. But that seemed fine with her, and she certainly didn't seem to need the help. And while he was not a fighter, he did make for a lovely and very attentive audience.

When she turned back to the cannons, he was leaning on his elbows against the one he'd sheltered behind, chin propped up in his hands, wearing an expression like he was watching a very entertaining TV show. The actual danger of the situation didn't seem to touch him.

"Mm, nothing's exploded yet," he reported, helpfully. "You have quite the interesting style."

"I'll bet it's a long story," Rich said with a grin. "They always are. Especially when there's alien vampires."

It was just a thing.

"I go by Nova," said Rich. "I got my powers -- which aren't working right now, lucky me -- from a dying alien who was part of an intergalactic police force called the Nova Corps. The powers come with a uniform that has a completely not-ridiculous helmet, standard issue. So ol' webhead, all of my friends, and pretty much all of the superhero community back home thinks it's funny to call it a bucket. And they call me 'buckethead.'"

He picked up one of the pirates and threw him right over the railing into the ocean.

"Spidey started it. Natch."

SCENARIO A
Despite himself, Gohan couldn't help but smirk as he looked down at the pirate ship. Arms crossed, as he hovered high in the air away from it all. He could tell the privateers needed help, it didn't take a genius to see that. But more importantly...

If he was going to help, he needed to make sure his entrance was memorable.

So he waited. He waited for just the right moment, then quickly descended to the ship. One of the pirates had their blunderbuss leveled on someone's head, ready to fire. However, as the shot went off... the pirate would find a certain green tunic in front of him, completely unaffected by the impact.

"You should be more careful with those," Gohan said with a smirk. Before casually bringing his hand to the barrel of the gun, and squeezing it shut. "You could hurt someone."

And then he punched the pirate, sending him tumbling away.

"Never fear, for the Great Saiyaman is HERE!"

SCENARIO B
Given his abilities, the pirate ship hadn't been that hard to infiltrate. Between all the chaos on the main deck, and all the different people with brightly-colored outfits, he... blended pretty well, actually. As such, he figured he could use the confusion to look for any captives, to try and get as many innocent people out of this mess as possible.

He was doing pretty well for a while! At least, until he got to the biggest group of captives, and found that a large chunk of pirates had been waiting to ambush whoever tried to free them. They hadn't attacked yet, instead circling around him and the captives in a thick circle.

But they were gonna. There was no doubt.

"Drop your weapons, and I will not hurt you!" Gohan said in his exaggerated voice, hoping to maybe defuse the situation. It was a long shot, but hey... maybe it would work! "I'm taking these people to safety! It doesn't have to get messy!"
