IC ANON MEME

THE IC ANON MEME

RULES AND INFO

Everything must be from an IC in-world perspective. The meme is specifically a Legion fandom meme. UP citizens, Legion World Staff, and Legionnaires all have access to the meme. While this meme is in the meme comm, it is real in the game universe and all the Legionnaires and the public can see it ICly. Rather than other ic anon memes where characters post starters to the meme, this meme operates like real world memes like rpanons.

There are 3 ways to post. When posting as non-Legionnaires, do it anon. When posting as Legionnaires that unwisely comment unanon, just do it logged in. If posting as Legionnaires going anon, do it logged in, but mark "anon" in the subject, so we know it's anon, but can have a laugh over which Legionnaires are secretly stanning or shitposting.

Not necessarily a rule, but keep in mind that attitudes in the UP are different than our world. Most people are referred to generally as "people" or "sentients" instead of species-specific terms like "humans." Most racist, homophobic, transphobic, sexist, and other "ist" attitudes are now uncommon among most species in the UP. Many sexual orientations exist, polyamory and polygamy are considered acceptable, and gender identity is very flexible. Species-based xenophobia tends to be the bigger social ill and even with that, many are against it. The species that are most disliked and distrusted are Durlans, Daxamites, and Roboticans. If you want to use them for fun, common UP cursewords are on the Legion Basics page.

Beyond sticking to those basics, don't worry about getting anything "wrong." It's a meme and people tend to say stupid things on memes. You can even make up fake species and planets and details about them. The UP is huge and has lots of planets and species not mentioned in the game info.

You can pretend to write things from the POV of Legion staff sharing the deets on the Legionnaires. However, they wouldn't share tactical info on the Legionnaires that could get them hurt in battle, only juicy gossip. Also, if someone is writing from the POV of Legion staff and writes something about your character that your character doesn't actually do, keep in mind that half the time people make shit up. It'll just be false gossip.

Try to keep anything that can't be put behind a link sfw. While you can write someone sharing the start of their steamy slash fanfic, try to keep it limited to just part of it. Linking to fanart as if it was made in universe is a-okay, but just make sure to put it under a link and warn if it it's nsfw. Please check character ages before posting any nsfw stuff to make sure they're over 18.

Feel free to get really crazy. Fandom gets crazy and fandom is no different in the glorious robot future. There are normal posters, shitposters, trolls, rpf ficcers, stans, slashers, all the same things our time has. There are macros and gifs and ongoing fake memes you can make up. There will be a few preposted topics but you can make up new ones or just have anons create new topics or troll.

The meme is generally modless and has no thread-freezing. Fandom plays it dangerous in the future and the ic mod rarely intervenes, though anons sometimes try to get them to. Anon comments can be deleted by the real mods at the request of players (like say if they made a formatting mistake and want to repost) but there should be no need to delete anything beyond that since it's all IC.

It's very easy to believe what you want when you only know a few minutes of someone's whole story. If he has a planet-sized murderous streak, where is the planet of people he's murdered?

You don't know everything about any of us.

part of being a soldier means making really difficult choices in the heat of combat. That's what they're for.

Legionnaires aren't soldiers.

No, they aren't, but just waking up here, swearing in, and living here for under a year is not gonna be enough to get rid of things that have been drilled in to the point of instinct. Alternative methods are well and good but this was not a situation where it was possible. I'ts unfortunate, but it is what it is.

You care. Otherwise you wouldn't be here. And I won't go anywhere - I have a part of the story you don't.

Oh yes. How deplorable.

Killing some murderer who was gonna off your little baby boy?

Truly Freelancer is a monster.

Killing anyone makes him a monster. He's a Legionnaire, and Legionnaires don't kill. He should know that and so should you.

Didn't he only just become a Legionnaire recently, I heard he used to be a soldier in a war that sounded right out of some of the old propaganda.

And that aside, while yes, it's preferable for them not to kill, let's look at the situation:

*stuck in a murderworld run by a psychopath
*out of his element and constantly getting thrown every which way
*surrounded by bloodthirsty mercenaries who likely wanted to make flutes from his bones
*looking out for other rookies, and having to protect some who are out of their league

Calling Freelancer a monster for killing mercs to protect kids is like calling Batman a monster for when he shot Darkseid with a gun in the early 21st century - maybe not what we wish he'd done, but definitely understandable given that desperate times called for desperate measures.

Now if he starts killing civilians, then that's another story, and I'd condemn him right alongside you.

But outside that - keep up the good work, Freelancer. Some of know you're still a hero.

Heck, my kid's putting together a costume of you for Halloween this year.
