IC ANON MEME

THE IC ANON MEME

RULES AND INFO

Everything must be from an IC in-world perspective. The meme is specifically a Legion fandom meme. UP citizens, Legion World Staff, and Legionnaires all have access to the meme. While this meme is in the meme comm, it is real in the game universe and all the Legionnaires and the public can see it ICly. Rather than other ic anon memes where characters post starters to the meme, this meme operates like real world memes like rpanons.

There are 3 ways to post. When posting as non-Legionnaires, do it anon. When posting as Legionnaires that unwisely comment unanon, just do it logged in. If posting as Legionnaires going anon, do it logged in, but mark "anon" in the subject, so we know it's anon, but can have a laugh over which Legionnaires are secretly stanning or shitposting.

Not necessarily a rule, but keep in mind that attitudes in the UP are different than our world. Most people are referred to generally as "people" or "sentients" instead of species-specific terms like "humans." Most racist, homophobic, transphobic, sexist, and other "ist" attitudes are now uncommon among most species in the UP. Many sexual orientations exist, polyamory and polygamy are considered acceptable, and gender identity is very flexible. Species-based xenophobia tends to be the bigger social ill and even with that, many are against it. The species that are most disliked and distrusted are Durlans, Daxamites, and Roboticans. If you want to use them for fun, common UP cursewords are on the Legion Basics page.

Beyond sticking to those basics, don't worry about getting anything "wrong." It's a meme and people tend to say stupid things on memes. You can even make up fake species and planets and details about them. The UP is huge and has lots of planets and species not mentioned in the game info.

You can pretend to write things from the POV of Legion staff sharing the deets on the Legionnaires. However, they wouldn't share tactical info on the Legionnaires that could get them hurt in battle, only juicy gossip. Also, if someone is writing from the POV of Legion staff and writes something about your character that your character doesn't actually do, keep in mind that half the time people make shit up. It'll just be false gossip.

Try to keep anything that can't be put behind a link sfw. While you can write someone sharing the start of their steamy slash fanfic, try to keep it limited to just part of it. Linking to fanart as if it was made in universe is a-okay, but just make sure to put it under a link and warn if it it's nsfw. Please check character ages before posting any nsfw stuff to make sure they're over 18.

Feel free to get really crazy. Fandom gets crazy and fandom is no different in the glorious robot future. There are normal posters, shitposters, trolls, rpf ficcers, stans, slashers, all the same things our time has. There are macros and gifs and ongoing fake memes you can make up. There will be a few preposted topics but you can make up new ones or just have anons create new topics or troll.

The meme is generally modless and has no thread-freezing. Fandom plays it dangerous in the future and the ic mod rarely intervenes, though anons sometimes try to get them to. Anon comments can be deleted by the real mods at the request of players (like say if they made a formatting mistake and want to repost) but there should be no need to delete anything beyond that since it's all IC.

You're a Legionnaire. You're supposed to be better than them. Better than us.

Instead, you let them drag you down to their level and now you're hiding behind semantics rather than admit it.

I also can't do anything for the UP unless I'm still alive. Being better than the bad guys isn't worth it if it means you die.

Levels of force, man. Circumstance dictates what levels are appropriate. That's how a lot of law enforcement works. If this had been just a normal life or death situation, like one of our normal superhero fights, it'd be different because there'd be way more options. In that case, taking the high road is important because of the example it sets.

But being trapped somewhere under duress is totally different. We weren't law enforcement in that situation, we were victims of a ridiculous number of crimes.

[A pause.]

[He holds up a finger and then corrects anon like the pedantic nerd he is.]

Also, semantics is a branch of linguistics that deals with interpreting the meaning of words. This is actually really an ethics argument. People get them confused all the time but they're not the same thing.

Re: I'm Captain Mystery, AMA

(Anonymous) 2016-11-21 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
You had options, you didn't take them. You think the Legion's never been in hellish situations before, surrounded by people who wanted to kill them with no way out? They always found another way, a path to contain, deflect, or evade their enemies rather than kill them.

The fact that you're arguing this just proves that your membership is a stain upon the team that means so much to us.

And now you're trying to deflect by focusing on words and meanings. In any case, semantics still applies because you're hiding behind your murders with titles like "justified homicide" and "manslaughter" and arguing definitions. So stop mansplaining ethics and start answering for what you've done

Yeah, they found a way to do all that, right?

So where are they now? Oh, yeah, most of them are gone. All that "deflecting" really worked out for them, didn't it.

[It's vicious, mean-spirited, and cold, and his eyes widen as he says, and for a moment it looks like there should be something in them. A flash of yellow light maybe? This side of him is an ugly holdover from the apocalypse, and being pulled out of his body. It's the place where his vicious hatred of Bill Cipher has its roots dug firmly in, and a side of him that sharpened while under the terrible control of the Yellow Lanterns.]

[He's tired of being pushed around, tired of feeling weak and powerless, and that's all Murderworld was, Arcade making them feel powerless and hopeless. He's felt that powerlessness too many times for him to have pity for the people responsible for it. Bill was a monster, the Yellow Lanterns were monsters, Arcade's flunkies were monsters, and Arcade is a monster, and he wonders why that's so hard for people to understand.]

[Monsters are different from people. The good ones like Multi-bear and even the gnomes were like humans and deserved to be protected. The bad ones? Weren't. He doesn't know why people who act like monsters should be treated any different.]

[What he doesn't understand is how callous he's become. How hardened and cold and sharp.]

I did what I had to do, and knocking over their cars would've been hard to do and probably would've killed them anyway, and you have no idea what you're talking about, and would probably die in like five seconds if you had to face all the terrible stuff I've faced!

You're a child.

The team would be better off without you own it.

[personal profile] goddamngrenades 2016-11-21 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
And you're bullying a child that just went through some pretty severe trauma, who's the asshole now?

(Anonymous) 2016-11-21 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
Says one of the failures who couldn't keep him out of Murderworld in the first place.

[personal profile] goddamngrenades 2016-11-21 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
Yes because my magical space powers I got included turning back time. They were already there when I woke up here. Shit happens, it happens to kids, it happens to soldiers, it happens to people that shouldn't have been there, Legionnaire or not. Yelling at someone for trying not to die doesn't help them or change what happens, so aside from getting all warm and toasty on the inside, what are you hoping to achieve here?

[He's cried over far less, though to his credit, he just tears up this time, and manages to hold it (mostly) in.]

Maybe I am! Maybe I am just a kid! Maybe I'm not some big stoic, fearless hero that always does stuff right!

But even if I am a kid, I still helped stop a demon apocalypse. And I've protected my teammates and saved some of their lives. And I survived brainwashing that would've probably left most people crazy forever!

And yeah, I'm probably a little too vicious sometimes, but it's only because I hate people that think it's okay to make other people feel afraid and powerless and small.

So maybe I am just a kid, but if you think my teammates are better off without me, you're wrong. I'm going to keep protecting them, and I'm going to keep protecting innocent people, and most of the time I'll even try to keep the bad guys from getting hurt too much. And that'll only be different if the situation is really, really bad.

So -- so -- [His face turns red] Sprock you! And the rocketship you rode in on!

[Generally, he and Mabel avoid cursing, but maybe it's time to start. Maybe it's time to do the teen rebellion thing.]

Yes, he's a child. One who, from the sounds of it, is someone who's still a fucking rookie.

By which I mean, cut him some fucking slack. From the sounds of it, these guys probably never expected to be in such a situation, and made a split-second decision.

I mean, God, it'd be like calling Superman a murderer for killing Doomsday to save the Justice League (yes, they both came back later, but my point remains).

[Okay he's been quietly watching all this because it's not his business, he only just got here, and as much of a nosy asshole as he is he can recognize when shit is really heavy and doesn't need his additional weight in there. But this all just took a severe nosedive out of proper debate altitude and Dave's done with it.

But adding to the dogpile probably won't help, so instead he takes off to flit around the likely areas of the ship with quantum-enhances speed. Luckily, Dipper is having his little meltdown on the observation deck, so it's only a few minutes before Dave is suddenly behind him, reaching over his shoulder and plucking the omnicomm out of his hand.]

Alright, that's enough of that.

[And he manages to type out one more response to the thread even as he says it, typing with one hand while keeping the other firmly pressed down on Dipper's shoulder.]

ok shows over were done for the day
we officially met our quota for harassing traumatized kids who just went through some serious shit
thought it was gonna take us all week to hit that number but hey yall worked real fuckin hard and pulled some overtime so now were getting out early
congrats

[He doesn't try to get the omnicom back. He just sits there, fists clenched, his whole body tensed up, breathing short little breaths like his lungs are too stiff to breathe right.]

[Then he sniffles, rubs an arm over his eyes, and embarassed, he gets up and runs off to have a good sulk and then find Mabel.]

[He can always get his omnicom back later.]

[...Orrrr get a new one and avoid Dave forever because he's embarrassed someone had to take it away, like he really is just a dumb kid that needed a toy taken away and put off limits.]

[Aw. Dude.

He doesn't give chase because yeah the guy probably has people he'd rather talk to right now and it's not like Dave is great at the whole comforting bit anyway. But yeah. He remains standing there awkwardly a long few minutes, unsure of what he should do, before finally pocketing the device and resolving to find Dipper and give it back later.]

[ Robbie is fucking livid. ]

I don't care if you're a kid, Dipper, and I don't care how bad Murderworld was for you. Don't ever say that about a dead hero again.

And you, anon, can also sit the fuck down and shut up. This isn't me taking anyone's side over a Legionnaire. You don't get to crucify a kid publicly for reacting badly in an intense, violent scenario.
captainbuzzkill: (013)

[personal profile] captainbuzzkill 2016-11-22 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
[He sees it before Dave takes his omnicom away but doesn't have enough time between seeing it and that happening to answer.]

[Great, now one of the grown ups he looks up to is mad at him.]

[Robbie's right, of course. That was a terrible, horrible thing for him to say, even if he's upset and angry. And Dipper saying it makes the anon just a little more right about how cold and callous he is, doesn't it? Maybe they're onto something.]

[It's funny that he started this with talking about his old "Dipper's Guide to the Unexplained" videos and being an anomaly, because he feels abnormal now. That's what all of this has done, made him realize that maybe something is just...off.]

[And with Dave taking his omnicom away, the only thing he can do is run off, try to stop thinking about it, and fixate on it obsessively as he tries to figure out what's wrong with him.]

Okay, this, right here? It's done. Dipper, back away from the omnicomm.

Anon? Dipper's already made most of my arguments for me, except for two. One? I'd much rather have my friend alive than a bunch of murdering psychos who were gleefully trying to kill him.

Two? All of your suggestions were terrible and would still end up with them dead.

I mean, come on, I'm from the 11th century and even I could tell those things were deathtraps waiting to happen.

Re: I'm Captain Mystery, AMA

(Anonymous) 2016-11-21 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
No one asked you.

Also, there's only a chance that they'd die. There's also the chance that the safety mechanisms in the vehicles (being an admitted primitive, you probably don't know about those) would have kept them from dying. Could they have died? Sure. But Captain Mystery didn't even give them the chance to live. He just killed them all.

Also, it's a joke when someone from two thousand years ago comes up and goes "Mm. Yes. We haven't even figured out how to make windows, but I know how safe cars are from a glance."

It's like a cave man walking up to you, looking at your clothes, and grunting about how they couldn't possibly keep you cold when the frozen white stuff coated the land.

alright, how about someone who does know about cars telling you those things were rusty metal death traps?

how about you go fuck yourself and leave the kid alone?

[ So much for Grif never coming onto the meme again. Hi guys. ]

Thanks for backing me up on this. Were there even any seatbelts in those things?

Yes anon, I've been here a while, I know what seatbelts are, and I wasn't surprised in the least by them. Mostly because I basically invented them in the first place.
