(Anonymous) 2016-06-28 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)How's Videl handling a world where she's famous for her own accomplishments, not something her father stole credit for?

Are you saying I didn't accomplish anything myself back home? Because you can get bent. [ She huffs. ] Yeah, a lot of people just know me as "the daughter of Mr. Satan," but I have a lot of fans because of the stuff I've done. Ask anyone at the Satan City Police Department, for starters.
[ She folds her arms. ] I don't like the way Papa stole credit from Gohan for Cell's defeat, but now that I've gotten to know Gohan, I think things worked out better this way. Gohan wouldn't want the kind of fame Papa has.
Me, I don't really care either way. [ A shrug. ] I'm doing this because I wanna help people, not because I wanna get rich off merchandising.
OOC:
Videl hasn't really acknowledged that there's a notable difference between the fame she experiences here and what she experienced back home. At home, her rise to fame was bolstered significantly by her father's name, but it was her own strength and accomplishments that made her feel like she deserved the attention. Videl knows how capable she is and feels like all the fame she earned at home is because of herself. People know her because of her parentage, but they love her because of her. She feels that same way here in Legion.
It's also because the "daughter of Mr. Satan" label is a deeply ingrained part of her personal identity. Her father has been famous since well before the Cell Games (although not nearly on a worldwide scale), so Videl has been accustomed to being recognized because of her association to him for most of her life. She doesn't let that label define her or bring her down; hell, she practically expects people to recognize her that way. But lots of people recognize her as herself and cheer for her by name (which you see a lot of during her fight with Spopovich in the 25th World Tournament).
The long and short of is it is that the fame makes Videl feel like the status quo has been returned. She's used to being in the spotlight. It just happens to be on a much larger scale now and everyone recognizes her by her code name and goofy costume instead of her parentage.

[ Videl catches herself abruptly, realizing that she was letting her private thoughts escape. The flush in her face deepens, this time with anger. ] Is that even your business anyway? Go read a tabloid if you care so much! Besides, people seem to think we're siblings so obviously we shouldn't even be dating!

But I get it, though. When Gohan and I first started fighting together, we were awful. [ She laughs. ] We were always getting in each other's way, or he'd end up beating up all the bad guys before I could even get a jump on one. It takes a lot of practice to get really in sync with someone. Gohan and I still have a ways to go.
It's nice having other people involved in a fight and all, but sometimes I miss fighting solo.
