IC ANON MEME

THE IC ANON MEME

RULES AND INFO

Everything must be from an IC in-world perspective. The meme is specifically a Legion fandom meme. UP citizens, Legion World Staff, and Legionnaires all have access to the meme. While this meme is in the meme comm, it is real in the game universe and all the Legionnaires and the public can see ICly it. Rather than other ic anon memes where characters post to the meme, this meme operates like real world memes like rpanons.

There are 3 ways to post. When posting as non-Legionnaires do it anon. When posting as Legionnaires that unwisely comment unanon, just do it logged in. If posting as Legionnaires going anon, do it logged in, but mark "anon" in the subject, so we know it's anon, but can have a laugh over which Legionnaires are secretly stanning or shitposting.

Not necessarily a rule, but keep in mind that attitudes in the UP are different than our world. Most people are referred to generally as "people" or "sentients" instead of species-specific terms like "humans." Most racist, homophobic, transphobic, sexist, and other "ist" attitudes are now uncommon among most species in the UP. Many sexual orientations exist, polyamory and polygamy are considered acceptable, and gender identity is very flexible. Species-based xenophobia tends to be the bigger social ill and even with that, many are against it. The species that are most disliked and distrusted are Durlans, Daxamites, and Roboticans. If you want to use them for fun, common UP cursewords have been added to the Legion Basics page.

Beyond sticking to those basics, don't worry about getting anything "wrong." It's a meme and people tend to say stupid things on memes. You can even make up fake species and planets and details about them. The UP is huge and has lots of planets and species not mentioned in the game info.

You can pretend to write things from the POV of Legion staff sharing the deets on the Legionnaires. However, they wouldn't share tactical info on the Legionnaires that could get them hurt in battle, only juicy gossip. Also, if someone is writing from the POV of Legion staff and writes something about your character that your character doesn't actually do, keep in mind that half the time people make shit up. It'll just be false gossip.

Try to keep anything that can't be put behind a link sfw. While you can write someone sharing the start of their steamy slash fanfic, try to keep it limited to just part of it. Linking to fanart as if it was made in universe is a-okay, but just make sure to put it under a link and warn if it it's nsfw. Please check character ages before posting any nsfw stuff to make sure they're over 18.

Feel free to get really crazy. Fandom gets crazy and fandom is no different in the glorious robot future. There are normal posters, shitposters, trolls, rpf ficcers, stans, slashers, all the same things our time has. There are macros and gifs and ongoing fake memes you can make up. There will be a few preposted topics but you can make up new ones or just have anons create new topics or troll.

The meme is generally modless and has no thread-freezing. Fandom plays it dangerous in the future and the ic mod rarely intervenes, though anons sometimes try to get them to. Anon comments can be deleted by the real mods at the request of players (like say if they made a formatting mistake and want to repost) but there should be no need to delete anything beyond that since it's all IC.

This has probably been asked before, but what happened to the Legion Cadets? Retro, Babbage, and the others? Is the program even still open? Why aren't the new guys Cadets?

Legion staffer here. The loss of the Legion was pretty traumatic, and a lot of the Legion witnessed it, so a lot of the recruits took leave. They were green and not used to things that bad yet. The active Legionnaires of the old team that we have now worked through it, which was really devastating to see. They were still actively going out on distress calls even as they were dealing with what happened. I don't know how they did it. Some of them were breaking down between missions, then collecting themselves right up again to take the next distress call.

The UP Council put their bullshit sanctions in place while the recruits were on leave and due to their probationary status they have different rules in place for their leavetime. They're still not technically officially sworn in yet and they were given longer leavetime than is usually sanctioned in the Legion constitution, due to it being a somewhat unusual situation.

The Council was able to treat it as if they ditched, citing the Legion Constitution, and that made it impossible for some of them to rejoin. I think a few took only the approved leavetime so some of them can rejoin (and haven't due to a few personal situations) but a lot of the others were barred from joining by the sanctions and still want to be Legionnaires to this day.

The sanctions are bullshit. They're not to protect "young people from dying," they're contributing to the risk of them doing just that.

Why are they in place? What is behind all that? It seems so complicated.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-17 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
It was a juggling act. Some UP Council members wanted to shut the Legion down "for their own good" others fought to keep things going on as usual, the only compromise they could manage was a bar on recruitment. (Luckily, the wording of that was only in regards to people within the UP. Otherdimensional people? Loophole).

And it's pretty much to destroy the Legion. I'm not really convinced it was truly a "compromise." I think some smart councilmembers realized keeping them active but putting sanctions in place on recruiting was the best way to truly destroy them and got the pro-Legion Council members to agree to it thinking it was the best they could do to prevent the organization from getting shut down.

Disbar them and they'll work in secret like they did before. Leave them working at half capacity, unable to recruit new help and they'll die. And then there'll be no more Legion of Superheroes.

As for why, there are countless reasons why. Politicians are corrupt, greedy sprocks and what organization kept overturning every log and overthrowing every corrupt administration the UP's ever had? They're doing shady things and if the Legion's broken or dead they won't be there to stop the corruption in the UP government in the future like they've done in the past.

i.s. Some of the UP Council wants the Legion destroyed or weakened to hide their own dirty dealings better.

I heard that some of them didn't do it by choice. Rumor has it in some places that the Beetle's putting pressure on certain Councilmembers so he can snap up the disaffected Cadets for some of his Questions.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-17 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
That's stupid. The Blue Beetle's actually been spotted in the newslinks but the Questions are just urban myth nass. Or if they are real, it's probably just one person.

My uncle works in the Science Police and he says that he saw the Question. It was like a twelve foot shapeshifter with a cloud for a head and tentacles with teeth for arms, but it ran away when he fired his pulsegun at it.

He says it eats people.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-17 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Your uncle is on skap, anon. He's trippin'

(Anonymous) 2016-06-17 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
You take that back, you squaj!

(Anonymous) 2016-06-17 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
That is some dark nass. I totally believe it though. Look at Madame Chu's administration. MacCauley's (before he was killed, he was already doing some horrible things, before that villain took over). The council scandal where they found those original displacees that were other versions of Legionnaires where they kept them imprisoned, before the current displacees showed up.

There are some wicked awful nassheads in our government. Evil people.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-17 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
To me, Chu is worse. What kind of mother treats her own daughter's friends like that?

What kind of woman treats her family like that?

(Anonymous) 2016-06-17 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
You're getting them mixed up, anon. Chu was that crazy nasshead that faked the Sun Eater thing and tripped the Braal-Titan war. You're thinking our current leader of the free galaxy, Madame Wazzo.

Who I totally agree with you about. She's horrible.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-17 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
lbr, they're interchangeable. The real power behind the throne is R.J. Brande.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-17 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh come on, Brande ran away from politics like his ass was on fire. Everyone knows he puts everything he has into the Legion.

Isn't that just how Batman did things with the Justice League? Pretended to be an urban legend while he was secretly running everything?
ringslinging: i want to get my pilot's license is so i can use the argument "FUCK YOU! I'M A PILOT!" (the majority of the reason)

[personal profile] ringslinging 2016-06-18 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
Common misconception, but Batman definitely did not run everything.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-18 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
have you ever considered a bowlcut?
ringslinging: (i wish my penis had an off switch)

Christ, no.

We didn't need that rustpile in there anyway.

I'm from Xanth and I say scrap'em all.
