Cullen's mouth opened and closed a couple of times. There was a time, not that long ago, where Tarabotti's words would have wounded Cullen, would have sent him to his room, hiding out with a family-sized pack of Chocos, a six pack of Cherry Zesti Cola, and a Supernatural marathon.
Since then, Cullen's sister had become a crimefighter and Cullen had become friends with a few crimefighters himself. He'd also come to the decision that he would no longer be bullied. Ever. By anyone.
That included the sneering, snobby old fossil that was Alessandro Tarabotti.
"I'm sixteen," he snarked. "You're definitely over twenty. In my world, that pretty much makes you an elder." He raised his eyebrow and herded a couple of kids his age over to one side. This group, thankfully, moved along without complaint, though it's possible there was something in his eyes that made them not want to argue with him.
"As for respect? Where I come from, it's earned, not just freely given. The power thing literally just happened. I can control my mouth just fine. It's the powers that I have no clue about."
