bachido: (a good story)

"You remember us!"

Kubo was happy - so happy - to be a little bit squished between his mother and father, a position death had denied him twice.

Still he drew back enough to see his father's face again, to look for a little bit of familial resemblance that his grandfather's curse might have left behind. There wasn't much, but that really didn't matter.

He paused in his smiling to glance around again, just in case this dream were too good to be true, before smiling at his father and mother again.

His eye welled up as all the things he wanted to say to his father built up behind him - that he was sorry, still, not to have been more watchful in the fortress, but his mother would not let him bear that guilt and he felt sure his father wouldn't either. That he was sorry for his father's decade in amnesiac isolation, that he was afraid this reunion was too good to be true, that he loved his father and was so, so proud to be his son -

"I missed you," he settled on, his voice breaking as a tear spilled out of his eye.
