It seems extremely unfair that last time he landed in a cowboy universe he didn't get to do this. It's definitely the coolest part. The fact that he's not actually great at the combat side of things doesn't bother him at the moment. It's too much fun to enjoy the massive advantage of agility and teleportation on an angrily rattling, speedying platform with uncertain footing and an engine blowing undoubtedly carcinogenic smog back at everyone.

(Look, his home universe solved energy and emissions sixty years before he was born. He's not very forgiving of primitive technologies. Except when they're entertaining.)

Are midair somersaults and backflips necessary in this fight? They are not. But it is arguably a tactic, since it tends to confuse and enrage anybody he's fighting, make him a bit harder to hit, and he maintains looking cool is kind of a big deal when you're four-foot-eleven and look like a prototype from Satan's most adorable plushie line. He doesn't have much of a chance at being intimidating (in daylight, anyway; the cover of darkness gives him the spooky option), so he has to be at least a little bit impressive.

And as dumb as it sometimes looks, he's pretty effective, in his limited way. He's not a hitter; a small frame and light bones make for a glass ninja at best. But bad guys can't be nearly as bad with a teleporter appearing overhead and pulling coats over their eyes, pushing them down, and poofing away before anyone can get a bead on them. Disarming works, too, if his aim is good. And anyone in trouble is a moment from rescue. As long as they don't mind being briefly suffused in disorienting, hot blackness, weird, dizzying pressure shifts, and a cloud of pink smoke to wave away when they land on the other side.

Bamf.
