The "Life Finds A Way" Test Drive Meme
![]() The Time Trapper, the being responsible for bringing people into the Legion's universe, is up to some strange tricks! It's now creating illusions of alternate universes and dumping the Legionnaires into them to try to test them as Legionnaires. Each time this happens, the captives -- er, participants have knowledge of the scenario, their role, and what they're supposed to accomplish planted into their heads, but still remember who they once were. To complicate things, the Legionnaires from the 31st century aren't the only ones pulled into this adventure. Strange people from many worlds are being yanked in and finding themselves thrust right into the heart of these conflicts. These universes technically are just illusions (probably!) and all the participants have an inherent knowledge of this placed in their heads, but it's up to them if they believe it -- and the danger is real. If you die in one of these scenarios you stay dead. This time everyone is being dumped into a scenario where they're dealing with... THE SETTING At its opening, the Cretaceous Days amusement park was considered one of the most technologically advanced amusement parks ever created. The technology of the United Planets was advanced enough to allow for the cloning of a variety of prehistoric species from many worlds, from Earth's ancient, feathered dinosaurs to the scaly pretorians of Colu's past. Now the park has broken down and the animals have gone out of control! With electric fences failing, forcefield walls going down, and all protective technology being mysteriously disabled, everyone in the park is in danger. Dinosaurs from Earth's ancient history are running wild here, but prehistoric animals from other worlds are just as vicious and ferocious. While this is possibly one of the Time Trapper's strange pocket dimensions, this dimension is very similar to the game universe, and whether or not the sentient beings in need of saving are real or not is impossible to tell. It's a bad idea to risk not helping them in case real lives are on the line. Based on player preference, for the purposes of the meme, characters can either lose powers, retain their canon powers, or find themselves with new powers. It's up to you. SCENARIO A: RAPTORS Forget velociraptors, herds of larger Deinonychus are now freely roaming the park. Dangerously intelligent, they're hunting in packs, and smart enough to use various tactics to herd and surround their prey. Places like the vast indoor food court and gift shops can sometimes be used against them, since they provide hiding places, vents, and areas that can be closed with doors. The deinonychus aren't the only things that can work in numbers. Perhaps if you team up against them you'll have a chance of survival. SCENARIO B: GIGANOTOSAURUS The T-rex's bigger cousin, a Giganotosaurus is now rampaging around the park, and it has one hell of an appetite. Perhaps you can escape by climbing up a tree taller than it and jumping from tree to tree to safety. Or maybe you might figure out a clever way to trap it once more. Whatever the case, if you don't successfully stay out of its reach, you'll wind up its dinner. It's a good thing you don't have to face the hulking monster alone. SCENARIO C: ALIEN CREATURES Dinosaurs aren't the only prehistoric animals rampaging around the park. The tentacled let'ek of Omiclon 6 might try to choke the life out of you. Or you might find yourselves mesmerized by the hypnosis powers of the blue-billed Stenothians from Winath's ancient times. (Players may make up any ancient alien creature they like for a scenario and make up ways for it to be defeated.) SCENARIO D: PROTECTING CIVILIANS Personal survival is important but most of the civilians trapped in the park don't have a chance of escaping the many creatures that are now loose -- unless you work together to give them one. There are shelters and safe places they can be taken to, and even places where you can find small escape ships to evacuate. SCENARIO E: WILD CARD! There are all different threats and objectives possible within the park. Perhaps you have the technological skills to turn on the safety protocols in each of the sections of the park, one by one -- but only if you can get to the manual consoles. Perhaps you can tame some of the more docile creatures and use them as mounts or convince them to attack the predators threatening you or civilians. Maybe you can find a way to safety through some of the automated systems that handle feeding (or waste processing) but can't get through the dangerous obstacles in them without the help of a new ally. ✦ Current players in game can jump into this and do starters if they like so they can play with new players and each other. This meme will count as part of the game canon for those that opt in, though they'll find their memories somewhat fuzzy afterward. These threads can count toward your AC, however the "new CR" credit cannot be applied since not every character joining in is guaranteed to join the game. This takes place before "In Brightest Day." ✦ Potential players can use this as a standard test drive and may use these threads as their log samples. However, at least one post in their thread must fit the requirements for apps, both in length (200 words) and in quality. If you do plan on using a thread as a sample, please make sure the writing throughout your threads is a good example of your writing skills and has some solid examples of the character's voice. ✦ Potential players can also opt to keep these threads as game canon when they app in, so that their character remembers the scenario and then suddenly finds themselves in the game universe. However, this is opt in and players can choose to introduce their characters fresh if they'd prefer that and no other characters will remember they were there. Please just note which you'd like in the additional info field on your app. ✦ If you are considering apping to the game, currently 25 of 50 player slots are available. The character limit is 4 characters per player. You can also scope out some of the game's upcoming plots here to get an idea of what kind of plots are in the game and what's to come. ✦ Non-players who like the meme but aren't really considering apping to the game are free to jump in. The more the merrier! The Time Trapper wants a confusing situation and will enjoy the chaos of lots of strange people trying to figure out what's going on. |
Jason Grace | Heroes of Olympus | Scenario D
He'd met and fought gods, titans, and monsters. And with all of that he still wasn't sure if dinosaurs was weirder or not. Jason isn't sure how he got here or where here even is -- but he knows his life is in danger, as are the lives of the screaming civilians running past him. Jason's never had to fight in a crowd like this, but he isn't going to let that hold him back. He hears a screech from above and looks up in time to see a large flying dinosaur circling overhead. Honestly, the shadow that dims the light around him should have been enough to suggest how big it is -- but actually seeing it puts a whole new spin on the size of that thing.
Jason watches as it banks and starts heading back, lower this time, and clearly targeting the herd of people running from it below. He's not used to using his abilities in a crowd like this, but he's not going to let that stop him. Jason clenches his fist and slashes it forward. A gust of wind comes out of nowhere and knocks the giant flying monster off course. It doesn't knock it out of the sky, but just sends it flying in another direction for a moment as it fights to correct itself.
He turns to his left, noticing a few people had turned to see what had caused the dinosaur to head off course. He sighs, taking on his commanding voice that he usually reserves for Praetor duties -- something he left behind him, "You need to get out of here. It's not down yet."
A dark shadow falls across them as if on cue and Jason looks up to see it just looks annoyed as it comes back.
"Go!" He shouts and the air crackles around him with electricity as he decides on a different tactic.
Azula | Avatar: The Last Airbender
Her attention was drawn to a boy who looked on a few years older than her, who was creating lightning to fight a flying beast. It didn't quite look like firebending though, at least not any technique she was familiar with - and she was familiar with most of them.
"Yes ... hurry," she told the crowd. Her tone wasn't half as commanding as his though, since she much more interested in seeing just what he was going to do next.

He hadn't noticed that not everyone hanging around was running however. His attention was focused solely on the creature flying back their way and Jason decided it was better if he could get it to focus on the air above, instead of the ground. Jason will have the advantage anyway and without a second thought Jason jumped in the air -- a current of air sweeping him up into the sky. Jason rode the air up and as he passed the creature's head he let out a burst of electricity at the dinosaur's face. He could be like a living bug zapper if he wanted to be, and this thing was experiencing that the hard way.
It let out a screech and snapped at Jason with it's massive jaws. Jason swept himself up higher in the air and was clearly trying to force the creature to follow him. "You're gonna have to move faster if you want to catch the son of Jupiter," he shouted, pushing back at the creature with a bigger gust of wind and flying higher.
If anyone on the ground had a shot, the creature's belly was now pretty well exposed.

And now the beast's tender flesh was exposed. Azula didn't hesitate before sending a streak of blue fire up towards it. The creature made a pitiful sound as its flesh began to burn. She smiled, pleased to making progress. So far, this test didn't seem so hard.

There was also the fact that Leo was missing, but to be fair Jason was in a world with real-live dinosaurs so that "missing" thing seemed like a small detail.
He was curious, never the less, about who was trying to BBQ a dinosaur from the ground. Jason couldn't make out details from up here, even with his glasses, but he took the distraction to adjust his flight and summon a blast of lighting to bring down on the creature's back. The sky rumbled and then a bolt struck down, hitting the flying dinosaur square in the back. It shrieked again before banking and tottering towards a nearby structure. The thing landed with a crash, crying out loudly for what Jason could only assume was help.
He frowned and looked around in the air. He could see forms in the distance that looked like they were now heading in their direction. This wasn't going to end with just one, great.
Jason scanned the ground to make sure the dinosaur wasn't about to crash down on anyone before swooping down to the ground to check on his helper. He figured it was probably the girl watching the thing with a smirk. Jason doesn't land, but gets close enough to the ground that he can talk without shouting, "That was good. Think you can do it a few more times? We've got more incoming."

She could see more of the creatures coming this way. Let them come. To have this power flowing through her body again, it made her feel alive and absolutely in control. She hadn't felt this way since ... since ...
She hadn't felt this way in a very long time.
She looked up at the boy and remembered how easily he'd thrown lightning around. Well. So could she. Her body remembered the forms, as natural to her as breathing, and she felt the air crackling around her. She then took aim at the nearest of the incoming beasts, a bolt flying from her fingers to strike it hard.

He had to admit, he's impressed when the girl shows versatility in fighting. The blue flames had been surprising, but Jason had to admit he hadn't been expecting a show of lightening rivaling his own. He actually might have jumped if he hadn't known he was immune to electrical attacks. You couldn't harm him with a zap like that -- though clearly the effect is apparent on the incoming flying dinosaurs.
"Okay then. We'll keep their attention. You strike from below, I'll take'em from above," he said, falling into the comfort of giving directions. He can't help that he's used to taking charge and zipped back up into the sky before anything could be contradicted. He couldn't tell if she was the type to enjoy following orders, but she certainly seemed the type that enjoyed fighting -- which in this case might trump it.
Jason realized that the incoming fliers were smaller than the giant one from before, but they were still as interested in the people below and were making a bee-line for them. Jason did his part to blow them off course and sometimes use the wind to push them into the path of the girl's lightning from below. Any that got close to him he also took the time to zap out of the sky.

The creatures were headed for some more bystanders, who hadn't run off fast enough. Azula used her flames to swiftly travel towards them. "Get moving!" she yelled at them, before sending another lightning bolt flying into the sky.
Between her firebending and the boy's abilities, they were able to keep the creatures back for a time. Then, to her left, Azula noticed one of the beasts diving towards a man and picking him up.
"Oh no, you don't," she said, rushing in that direct, once more using her fire to gain momentum. As she got near she leapt into the air, managing to land on the creature's back. "Let him go," she shouted, before engulfing its head in flames.
The creature writhed, letting the man go - lucky for him, the drop wasn't far enough to do more than bruise him. Azula jumped off of him, landing softly on the ground amid more blue flame.

Jason used his command of the winds to send the flying dinosaurs off in various directions, some even crashing into buildings or each other. Jason shocked any that got too close -- but he knew he wasn't going to be able to keep this up forever.
The grounds below were now mostly clear -- though he thought he saw a few faces peeking out of shop windows or out from under tables. Jason dropped a few feet lower, surveying the downed dinos when a dark shadow passed overhead. At first he thought it was a cloud, but when he looked up even he was shocked by what he saw. Its wingspan had to be close to 50 feet -- three times the size of some of the dinosaurs they'd been facing up until this point.
It swept overhead with a sound that would best be described as a roar. Jason was even pushed off course this time, having to catch himself in the air before ending up like the dinosaurs he had downed before. The dinosaur with the 50-foot wingspan was circling back and it seemed to be coming in lower this time.
"Oh...wow," Jason grumbled. "That's just what we needed."

"We go for its eyes," she told him. "Once its blind, it might take itself out for us. If not, it will at least make it easier to kill."
no subject
"If we disorient it enough, we probably won't have to kill it," he added, but ultimately he was going to follow this plan. Jason turned in the air, watching as the creature came towards them. He could feel the lightning ready to be released and he replied, "I'll take the left eye -- you get the right? We can concentrate our lightning at one eye each then." It would mean a good size blast between the two of them, and while he couldn't be sure how powerful her strikes would be, he had a feeling it would serve well enough for what they were doing.
The giant flying dinosaur was getting into range now, so there wasn't really time to come up with another strategy. Jason took aim and called down a bolt to strike the creature's eyes -- if its eyes were miraculously unimpaired, the light alone would blind it pretty good.

She maneuvered herself into position to take out the right eye, creating even more lightning as she did. The precision of this strike reminded her of the day she killed the Avatar. A shame it had only been temporary.
Her bolt went flying and struck true, at almost the exact same moment that the boy's did. The creature roared and veered one way, then the other. Its head moved from side to side, as it tried to find its attackers. Azula smiled. So far, her plan was working perfectly.

The creature was clearly trying to stay aloft and find them, but it was having a hard time since it could no longer see. It dipped a little too low and its large wings scraped the side of one of the bigger buildings -- a museum maybe? The dinosaur yelped in surprise at the sudden contact and jerked back. The sudden move threw off it's flight path entirely and suddenly it was crashing and it's large body was coming right for them as it skidded down the path.
Jason shouted, "Move!" If the girl wasn't fast enough he'd grab her and fly out of the way, but he'd give her a split second to get out of the way herself before the creature could take them both out in its flailing crash.

Unfortunately, this made it stir and attempt to become airborne again. The force of its wings flapping send Azula flying back once more, this time a little less gracefully. When she got off the ground, Azula glared at the beast. Now, she was angry.

He's blown off course a bit, but corrects himself. Maybe if he zaps it again he can paralyze it. Jason takes a deep breath, collecting the electrical charge around him he then thrusts it down, aiming at the base of the creature's neck -- another vulnerable position -- and it screeches in pain as its shocked.
